Twofour in search of UK secondary school for landmark Channel 4 documentary series
Twofour has been commissioned to develop an ambitious new documentary series for Channel 4 that will follow everyday life for year 11 pupils across a year in a British secondary school.
The company is currently looking for schools that may be interested in discussing the project, with a view to beginning filming this September.
Series Director David Clews, who recently made Channel 4’s Bafta nominated series The Family, said: “We hope to make an observational series exploring and celebrating the broader learning experience of a diverse range of young people, covering every aspect of teenage life from school work and exam pressure to first love and fitting in. We aim to see their world through their eyes and follow their experiences across this formative year in their lives.”
“We don’t want to shy away from the difficult parts of growing up, but will focus on positively exploring the universal themes we all identify with. At the same time we hope to surprise and challenge the way the public understands young people.”
Channel 4 wants the series to be similar in tone and scale to their recent, highly successful series One Born Every Minute which celebrates the joy of women giving birth on a typical NHS maternity ward.
The producers plan to use the same fixed camera shooting techniques for this series, allowing for uniquely unobtrusive filming. They are keen to hear from anyone interested in exploring the potential involvement of their school in the production, and would be grateful for any thoughts or advice.
