news item

Twofour is to follow the extraordinary journeys of the sportsmen and women who are battling to become the stars of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Channel 4 has commissioned the 10 x 60’ documentary series which aims to follow the drama of selection for the ParalympicsGB team. The series was commissioned by Hamish Mykura, Head of Documentaries and More 4 and Alison Walsh, Channel 4 Disability Executive, and will be part of the channel’s coverage leading up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Provisionally titled Hidden Heroes it is a series which aims to change public perception of disability in sport and turn the Paralympic athletes into household names.

Andrew MacKenzie, Twofour’s Group Creative Director said, “Like all elite sporting arenas this is a brutally competitive world and it’s brimming with strong characters and stories. We want to document these incredible individuals over the next two years and follow their lives as they progress towards the games.”

Hamish Mykura, Head of Documentaries and More 4, said: “This series follows some amazing athletes through a tough and thrilling elimination process. It's a very big commission for the Documentaries Department and illustrates that Channel 4 is set to make its Paralympic coverage one of its biggest-ever events making household names of many of Britain's Paralympic stars along the way. Paralympic or Olympic, disabled or not, these films are fundamentally about incredibly committed athletes fighting for gold.“
